Houston Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt underwent back surgery this week and is expected to be on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list when the team starts training camp July 31. He played through a number of injuries including torn abdominal muscles and a broken hand and still managed to post 17.5 sacks in 2015.

Hardy had a tumultuous season in Dallas, one that started with a four-game suspension related to his domestic violence case in North Carolina and included several disruptions that included a physical confrontation with an assistant coach. Another NFL.com reporter, Mike Garafolo, cited a source in tweeting that the 27-year-old could take as much as 10 weeks to return, which would have him missing several games.

Watt has not missed a single game in his five-year career.

He also has played just under 25 snaps in preseason games over the last four seasons, while winning National Football League defensive player of the years three times.

Right now there are questions about the recovery timeline for the Texans stud.

JJ Watt will miss all of the Texans training camp but the team are optimistic he will be fit for week one
