Texans DE Watt could play in opener versus Bears

J.J. Watt returned to practice with the Houston Texans on Monday, and it appears he is going to play in the team’s Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears. Watt could play in the team’s season opener against the Chicago Bears on September 11.

That means Watt is eligible to play in the season opener against the Bears if he is healthy enough following offseason back surgery.

“I would say that we’re headed in the right direction with him”. On Friday, O’Brien said he did not have an update on Brown.

Watt missed all of training camp and the Texans’ four preseason games after surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back in July. If the Texans had put him on the regular-season PUP list, he would have had to miss at least six weeks of practice before returning to the field.

Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien watches play against the Dallas Cowboys in the first half of a preseason NFL football game, Thursday Sept. 1, 2016, in Arlington, Texas. Texans are looking for breakout season from Clowney, who shined this preseason after failing to produce in first two injury-plagued years. “Just taking it a day at a time”, he said.
