House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy shook up the House speaker’s race Thursday when he announced he would drop out of the running – and he had the highest chances to win on CNN’s Political Prediction Market.

Faced with a conservative revolt and an inability to win over his caucus, McCarthy made a stunning announcement Thursday that he was withdrawing from the race.
Kind says this fall Congressional session has a lot of important work to do, and they need to get several pieces of legislation passed quickly. Their voices have been heard in the House, and conservatives have succeeded in a clean sweep of the top three House Republican leadership spots. “It’s anyone’s ground game at this point”.
Despite the opposition, McCarthy clearly had been expected to emerge the victor Thursday over Webster and a third rival, Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah, who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The Republicans’ noontime meeting was adjourned moments after it began with McCarthy making his jaw-dropping announcement as his wife and kids looked on.
Ryan’s name was also floated by Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-New York, who said he was part of the effort to recruit South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy as a conservative member of leadership. Chief among them was Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., the GOP’s 2012 vice presidential pick.
Another Georgia congressman mentioned by those connected to Cobb’s political scene was Republican Tom Price of Roswell. McCarthy was by far the heavy favorite to replace Boehner.
“I would like to see someone that’s very tough and that can negotiate with the Democrats, and I don’t know that he’s that person”, Trump said last week on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”.
Everhart added that Price was among the “good folks” representing Georgia in the U.S. House.
McCarthy said he would stay on as majority leader. There’s been discussion for a while now that that could be on the chopping block. “We’ll find a way to do it”, he told reporters. And I think what’s interesting is that Chaffetz is in this because there is this critical problem.
“What we’ll be doing next is probably standing by Mr. Webster”, Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina said. He recommended that the election be postponed and Speaker John Boehner delayed it.
“I think our conference will come together and unify”. We are interested in who has the best plan to empower members. It is not clear if other Republicans will now seek the speakership, which became open when Boehner announced he was leaving Congress at the end of the month. “I don’t know what the heck’s going to happen. That’s why this got stalled”, he said.
They searched for answers about a man they thought of as a straight-up deal-maker with a personal touch that goes beyond the artificial, backslapping ways of Washington.
