Texans look promising in debut

The 25-year-old Osweiler, who left the Broncos to sign with the Texans as a free agent in the offseason, threw an interception on the Texans’ first possession.

After studying the tape, the Bears weren’t as well prepared as they needed to be to take on the Houston Texans.

Even though 2016 is just his fourth National Football League season, DeAndre Hopkins finds himself as the elder statesman in the Texans locker room amongst the wideouts. Osweiler’s deep pass to Fuller on the ensuing first-and-10 would be incomplete, but two plays later, the two would reconnect.

The defense showed that there is a lot of potential.

Despite the good ending, it didn’t start out that way at all. “I feel more natural, loose in my hips, being able to get in and out of breaks”. For one thing, he’s got a great burst and is incredibly durable, having never missed a start in three seasons with the Dolphins and coming off a pair of 1,200-yard seasons from the line of scrimmage. Brock Osweiler threw a short pass to rookie receiver, Will Fuller who made an 18-yard dash to the end zone for the touchdown. And Cutler was consistently under duress with the Texans’ front seven attacking from all angles.

“They were going to not do too much in a first game with a new quarterback”, Fox said.

All in all, the offense clicked well after a few hiccups early on.

His moment of brilliance came on the TD play to Eddie Royal right before the end of the half, he fit the football between two defenders and only where Eddie could catch the ball. The fact that they showed good chemistry already is a good sign for the future.

Throughout the game, Osweiler seemed to find a connection with rookie wide receiver Will Fuller, who led the team with 11 targets and 107 yards through the air. That capped a 31-second, 75-yard drive that included a 54-yard strike to Jeffery. Cutler tried for a repeat on the Bears’ next snap, which resulted in a defensive pass interference call.

The Texans’ pass rush proved how dominant it will hopefully be against the Bears.

Whitney Mercilus’ second sack was the beginning of the end for the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Osweiler will probably be at his best when the offense relies more heavily on Miller, the 5-10, 225-pound back who could be the anti-Arian Foster. After all, Houston lost the opener to the Chiefs last year, and then had KC knock them out of the playoffs in the first round last year at home.

Cushing will not require surgery. No offense, No defense and apparently no special teams. Wanting to overcome that weakness, the team fired then special teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky and hired Larry Izzo. That’s fairly common for a rookie quarterback, as “don’t make any huge mistakes” is a fairly sound operating philosophy in a game that’s close enough throughout that you can lean heavily on a running back like Alfred Morris to try to win. Pat O’Donnell had an average of 38.1 yards per punt. Not stellar numbers, but definitely promising since the days of Jerome Mathis, Andre Davis, and Jacoby Jones. The second-year pro rushed for 57 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

The Texans knew all about that struggle, but after taking a big, $72 million risk, they might have put that problem behind them.
