Texans look to regroup after embarrassing loss to Patriots

Brissett was on the sidelines with the training staff having the thumb examined after 325-pound Texans defensive lineman Vince Wilfork landed on him in the third quarter of New England’s 27-0 win.

Garoppolo injured his shoulder towards the end of the first half in last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

That poker tell from Osweiler manifested itself in a major way during the second quarter of the previously undefeated Texans’ embarrassing 27-0 debacle of a loss to the Patriots on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots are out to a 3-0 start despite Tom Brady being suspended for the first four games. Brissett’s start on Thursday was the first time that New England had started a rookie quarterback since Drew Bledsoe in 1993. Stay tuned for updates. Belichick is 7-1 all time against the Texans, however when you look at the box scores or re watch the previous two match ups, the end results are identical.

I’m sorry. I should refer to you as Mr. Belichick. They’ll undoubtedly monitor the progress of Garoppolo and Brissett almost hourly prior to that point, but they might be able to get away with not having to add a third quarterback such as T.J. Yates for the week.

Brady is eligible to return on October 9, against the Cleveland Browns. The team is now weighing its options, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Even Las Vegas wasn’t feeling a New England victory, making the Patriots home underdogs for just the fourth time since 2003.

Belichick rolled the dice by not adding another quarterback to the roster during the short week, and the trust he had in rookie Jacoby Brissett proved to be spot on. However, most National Football League teams aren’t the New England Patriots. He put up pedestrian numbers – completing 11 of 19 throws for 103 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions for a 72.9 passer rating – but it was more than enough in conjunction with the impressive other two phases of the game to get the win. From a fan’s perspective, though, I would love to see Edelman behind center.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick did not mention the injury to Brissett in his morning conference call with New England reporters.

Brissett began the season as the third-string quarterback behind Brady and Garoppolo. Only time I curse sometimes is in football, so I’m trying to be better. It helps that the Patriots have nine days off between games, though it’ll still be hard for a new face to come in and learn the offense such a short period of time. The run defense made sure the Texans never got a complementary attack going, putting pressure on the Houston passing attack that it wasn’t able to handle.

Parcells had a vested interest in the game, given his friendship with Brissett and role as a mentor, which Ben Volin first wrote about last May.
