Texans Open Season Against Chiefs

One week into the season, the Houston Texans once again have a quarterback controversy.

During his debut as the Houston Texans starting quarterback, Brian Hoyer was benched for poor play in Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs and relieved by Ryan Mallett. Several reports citing unidentified sources said the Chiefs were upset with Fisher for telling them late in the week that he was not ready to deal with J.J. Watt and the rest of the Texans.

“You’ll have to wait until the first offensive play of the Carolina game to see who the quarterback will be”, O’Brien said.

Hoyer finished 18-of-34 passing for 236 yards. Mallett is also taller than Hoyer so he can see and read the defense better but what I want to know is are the Texans going to stick with one QB?

“I know things are out there”.

“I’m disappointed, embarrassed. I feel like I let those guys down”.

“That’s not something I worry about”.

He said he didn’t think sitting out the preseason hurt him, but said “I can always find ways to help the team more” and that he would evaluate the tape and do just that.

Kansas City’s defense forced Houston into some early mistakes, and Alex Smith capitalized on enough of them to give the Chiefs a victory. There was actually, when you look at the film, there were some really good plays too. The Chiefs have a strong front seven, but NT Donatari Poe (back surgery) will be limited in his snaps if he does play. “Just getting a feel of it, my first time back out there in a while”.

Today’s Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans NFL football game has a start time schedule of 1:00pm eastern time and is one of four games airing on TV channel CBS in different regions.

By contrast, Mallett completed four of his first six passes on his opening drive, which ended in an excellent eight-yard touchdown throw to DeAndre Hopkins, as well as the ensuing two-point conversion.

“It’s a big-picture decision”, said O’Brien.

“I think the difference between (this and Dez Bryant’s incompletion in NFC Playoffs last year) was his ball hit the ground a little bit, but in this case it didn’t hit the ground at all”.

Chiefs vs. Texans Game Action2. After their performance in the season opener, it seems as though Mallett may put the Texans in a better chance to win games than Hoyer will.

“They didn’t have anybody to scare us deep”, one AFC West assistant said.

Another sack by Watt, last year’s Defensive Player of the Year, came with an assist by Clowney in the third quarter. Later in the first quarter, the taller Hopkins reached over the 6-foot Peters and hauled in a 4-yard touchdown reception, his first of two scores.

There is no doubt, the Kansas City offense will turn to Jamaal Charles.

The Texans didn’t make any noise on the next series, and the Chiefs punished them, with Smith throwing a second touchdown to Kelce, who was left wide open for a 42-yard trot into the end zone.
