Texans place Clowney on PUP list

The Houston Texans have placed outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney on the physically unable to perform list.

The Texans improved seven games last season to finish 9-7, but missed the postseason again in large part after using four players at quarterback because of injuries and inconsistent play.

This is a procedural transfer that may allow the workforce to maintain Clowney on the PUP list for the primary six weeks of the common season if his knee doesn’t cooperate.

Clowney and Dent spent the offseason rehabbing from their injuries and will continue their current programs during training camp, which begins Saturday. Clowney suffered a lateral meniscus tear in the Texans’ first game of the season against Washington. Wayne was not brought back by the Colts and he has not had much of a market in free agency. Clowney, the first-overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft, saw action in only four games as a rookie, and underwent season-ending microfracture surgery on his right knee in December.

Clowney reportedly looked “spectacular”, according to the Houston Texans team doctor as he comes back from knee surgery. Forbes reports there is not a “hard timetable” for Clowney’s return. Hoyer was signed to a two year deal and he is the favorite to win the starting job, according to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain. He re-signed with the Texans in the offseason. They can be moved to the active roster at any time.
