Texans Star RB Arian Foster Has Torn Achilles, Out For The Season

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster seems like a nice guy, so it’s tough seeing him deal with all of these injuries. As bad as the beat down was, they perhaps suffered an even greater loss.

Foster will have an MRI on Monday to confirm what the team suspects, a torn Achilles tendon. With Sunday’s performance, he became the Texans all-time leader in 100-yard scrimmage games (49) and became the second player in team history to reach 400 career points scored (404). He was starting to run his passing route, fell to the ground and grabbed his leg and had to be carted off the field.

“I know he’s hurting”, O’Brien said. “We’re all supportive of him in that rehab”.

With Foster out the Texans (2-5) will look to Chris Polk, Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue to try and keep the running game afloat. He missed three games at the start of the season with a groin injury, per NFL.com. Neither offers the vision, fluidity, versatility or game-breaking ability at the position that Foster offered, though each is an adequate, if unspectacular, replacement for the duration of the season.

Foster, 29, has been one of the lone bright spots for Houston this season, rushing for 163 yards and a touchdown and catching 22 passes for another 227 yards and two scores. He has spent his entire seven-year career with the Texans, rushing for 6,472 yards.

The Texans will now have to rely on DeAndre Hopkins with Foster being out. The duo has been inconsistent thus far this season, averaging 3.9 and 3.4 yards/per carry, respectively.
