Texas businesses prep for new open carry gun law
Texas has a new open carry gun law on its books set to take effect on New Year’s Day.

“As a retailer of alcohol, long guns and unlicensed guns are prohibited on our property under Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission rules”, the H-E-B statement said.
An H-E-B store in San Antonio warns customers against… He adds that regardless of the situation, if you’re going to “openly carry” a weapon, you will always have to have your gun license on you and if you are approached by law enforcement, you may be asked to provide some form of identification.
But private businesses and other establishments have the right to ban open carry under the law, and many have been wrestling with how to proceed. Business that want to ban all guns from the premisis have to post two signs.
Despite its trigger-happy reputation, Texas is late to the open carry party, at least for handguns.
It might come as a surprise to many that one of the main centers of American gun culture, Texas, did not allow guns to be carried at plain sight, especially since shotguns and rifles are allowed to be visibly carried around.
Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun.
Openly carrying a gun will require obtaining the same license as concealed weapons holders. “We just felt that knowing our customers, allowing someone to walk in openly carrying a weapon, it would make them feel a little uncomfortable”.
We’ve had open carry in my home state of North Carolina for as long as I can remember, and while people will often do a double-take upon seeing an open carrier, they’ll simply shrug their shoulders and go back to doing what they were doing.
Others plan to keep their weapons concealed regardless of the new law.
Some places, like First Baptist Church of Arlington, have opted to allow Texans to open carry.
