Texas cleans up after twisters, snow and ice pelt Midwest
The full extent of damage along a almost 40-mile stretch near Dallas isn’t yet known, though there were reports of storms and tornadoes blowing the roofs off homes, mangling vehicles, damaging churches, downing power lines and toppling trees.

Even before the power outages, many Deroit-area homes are without basic utilities, including heat, due to shutoffs.
At least 11 people were killed in the state over the weekend as tornadoes struck the heavily populated Dallas area.
The governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez, also declared state of emergency on Sunday, when the National Guard started the rescue of stranded drivers. According to the Weather Channel, that tornado was classified as an EF4, the second-strongest ranking on the scale used to measure tornado strength, with winds between 166 and 200 miles per hour.
“The fact that people survived it, it’s awesome”, Garland police lieutenant Pedro Barineau told CNN Monday. The weather service said damage indicated it was an EF-3 tornado, which has winds up to 165 miles per hour.
Three other people died in Collin County, about 45 miles northeast of Dallas, according to sheriff’s deputy Chris Havey, although the circumstances were not immediately clear. Bishop says the tornado outbreak at this time of the year for North Texas occurs “from time to time… but it’s certainly not something that happens regularly”.

In Missouri, where Gov. Authorities in Georgia on Monday confirmed one man had died when his auto was swept away by floodwaters, several United States media outlets reported.
