Local and state law enforcement are actively searching for suspects who may have more information about the shooting and the alleged robbery at Hutchinson’s home.

He went on to serve in many roles including as a patrol deputy, a detective and a patrol sergeant.

Hutchinson was taken to Round Rock Hospital and pronounced dead there.

Sources tell KVUE that the Travis County Sheriff’s deputy had completed his shift when he confronted burglars on or near his property.

Authorities at the scene said police received reports of the incident around 1:20 a.m. near Oak Meadow Drive and East Messick Loop.

“I’m just in shock, shock”, said one neighbor, “I’m at a loss for words now”.

He was a veteran officer of 30-plus years who was set to retire in September.

The sergeant said Hutchison was “a big teddy bear and everybody loved him”. Investigators could be seen working in the area around the home.

Hamilton asked for prayers for the family, the community and the country at large, alluding to other recent police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge.
