Texas Health Department Cuts Federal Funding to Planned Parenthood’s HIV
The Utah affiliate of Planned Parenthood sued the state in September after pro-life Gov. Gary Herbert ordered the state health department to cut off federal funding to the abortion group.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who initiated the request, said Tuesday that the audit would cover all fetal tissue research supported by HHS grants and would examine how the agency enforced compliance with relevant federal laws. This comes in the wake of undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood executives selling of unborn baby body parts.
Bowen has also written in context with sting videos that Planned Parenthood has gone against federal raw by agreeing to change the timing or method of abortions to obtain fetal tissue for medical research. Top Planned Parenthood doctors talk frankly about harvesting aborted fetuses, and clinic staff are seen picking through abortion remains in the videos.
In a letter to Paul dated December 4, HHS Inspector General Daniel Levinson, said the investigation will include interviews with HHS and NIH officials, since a majority of HHS funding for fetal tissue research is awarded by the NIH.
HHS Assistant Secretary for Legislation Jim Esquea responded with a missive stating, “NIH has confirmed that third-party institutions receiving NIH funding for research involving fetal tissue samples have confirmed that their activities are in accordance with applicable legal requirements”.
Planned Parenthood does not deserve any taxpayer dollars for the simple reason that funding any sort of health-related organization is unconstitutional.
A spokeswoman for CDC said that the agency does not give money directly to Planned Parenthood and mentioned that the state was within its rights for money reallocation.
Moreover, Paul’s assertion that OIG’s investigation will encompass Planned Parenthood’s practices seems a bit overstated.
Disclosure: Planned Parenthood was a corporate sponsor of The Texas Tribune in 2011.
According to the report, Valenti’s call for censorship is not restricted to the Planned Parenthood videos alone but that she is clearly trying to gather attention to censor political speech whether or not it is intended or is likely to cause threats of violence.
“There will be no further renewals of this contract”, a DSHS official wrote in the notice to Planned Parenthood.

There are other matters to consider, too. And if major violations are uncovered, perhaps Congress will be forced to reconsider its unconstitutional and unconscionable funding of fetal tissue research.
