Thomas, who police say have no history of mental illness, had just moved into her Houston home in April. Management says Thomas, 30, walked away from the job a few weeks ago, after they confronted her about her behavior. She then rolled the bodies underneath a neighbour’s house, according to the affidavit.

A community is crying out for answers after a mother is charged with drowning her two kids in a bathtub.

Police were called out to the scene just before 11 a.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Tierwester Street.

That person began helping the woman pack, and at one point, asked about where her kids were. According to court records, Thomas has several convictions, including for theft and failure to identify oneself to an officer. She placed the girl’s body in a bedroom and then called her 7-year-old son into the bathroom, according to the affidavit.

“She was sweating, she was kind of angry that she didn’t have any money”, said Wesley. CBS News reported that as of Monday Thomas was being held without bond and no attorney was listed on her behalf. Thomas also has a son, 12, who was not at home when the alleged murders were committed by his mother.

Told the deceased children’s aunt, Kita Smith: ‘How am I going to tell my brother about his kids?’ “To me she was like, a real nice person”. The children were returned to her custody the next year.

Houston police spokesperson Kese Smith said investigators were still interviewing Thomas and had not determined a motive. “After she wasn’t moving and she wasn’t breathing, she took the body out of the water and placed her in the bedroom”.

“While you were there, how did you feel drowning your kids?” she said to KHOU.

“She made sure she kept the kids clean”, Thomas’s neighbor Shirley Baines told WFAA.

State child welfare officials had visited the family, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services spokeswoman Tejal Patel said, adding she could not disclose the nature of those visits.

Spokesman Jeff McShan says the charges had originally been worded as capital murder under six years of age as the prosecutor handling the case had believed both children were under six.

Even so, the two performed at a talent show on Friday at the Nenes Kiddie Kollege daycare center in Houston, where they lived.

When the man realized the woman wasn’t kidding, he drove her to a nearby police station. In a statement, CPS says, “It is important to learn everything we can about this tragedy, and what we can learn about what may have led to it, so our Office of Child Safety will conduct an independent and comprehensive review of how CPS handled any prior allegations involving the Thomas family”.
