Before becoming manager of the Rangers last season, Banister had spent 29 years in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as a player and coach.

The Rangers have extended manager Jeff Banister’s contract.

When Banister was hired in October 2014, he got a three-year deal with a team option for 2018. The new contract guarantees him 2018 and makes 2019 an option year. “It has been a tremendous partnership early on”.

After finishing last in the AL West in 2014 with a record of just 67-95, the Rangers pushed a loaded Toronto Blue Jays team to a decisive fifth game in the ALDS.

Tony Beasley #27 third base coach congratulates Mitch Moreland #18 of the Texas Rangers for hitting a solo home run in thesecond inning against the Seattle Mariners at Global Life Park in Arlington on September 20, 2015 in Arlington, Texas. Beasley had also been a player and coach in the Pirates organization before joining Banister’s staff.

“I have known Tony for a long time”, Banister said. Texas has never won the World Series. “I consider Tony family more than anything else because we have spent so much time together”. The belief is that the cancer has been caught in its early stages.

Daniels said that the Rangers will support Beasley however he needs it and will keep an open mind to keeping him on staff while undergoing treatment. Darvish threw 25 pitches off a flat surface Friday.
