The school district announced that it is treating the incident as an assault on a school official, an offense that could lead to expulsion.

Video of the assault shows the ref completely unprepared for the hit as one of the players crashed into him from behind before the other lowered his helmet and hit the downed ref a second time. They were suspended from both the team and the school.

The umpire who was viciously struck from behind by two San Antonio highschool football players throughout a game last week wasn’t a daily member of in that referee crew, an official stated Wed.

It’s a story continuing to dominate social media and headlines around the country, two John Jay High School football players now at the center of an investigation. The League is working with the school districts and officials involved to conduct a thorough investigation.

Marble Falls police Chief Mark Whitacre told The Washington Post the investigation is ongoing as of Tuesday.

“The incident is shameful to us”, said Northside ISD Superintendent Dr. Brian Woods.

Woods added the district is in the process of filing a complaint about the racial slur allegation with the Texas Association of Sports Officials. “It is not the good sportsmanlike behavior that we teach students”, Gonzales said.

“The first thing we want is that those two kids never play football again”, Elliott told ESPN.

The two players, from San Antonio, have not been charged. The referee, who the Austin American-Statesman identified as 14-year veteran Robert Watts, is considering pressing charges and denied the accusations as “libel and slander”.
