Texas’ Tyrone Swoopes Scores Winning Touchdown on Notre Dame
The teams traded blows before halftime with Texas getting just one more in than Notre Dame and the Irish went into the half down 21-14.

Texas: A huge win for Strong, who is trying to avoid being the first Texas coach with three consecutive losing seasons since the 1930s.
Buechele made his first big mistake with an interception that Crawford returned to the Texas 6. I will continue to learn from my mistakes and vow to never be defined by the few mistakes I have made in my life.
“I said a year ago we probably would have lost that football game because we didn’t know how to finish”, Strong said.
“At least for one game – for one game”. But if Texas is indeed on its way back, that’s big news for the Big 12. Yet, Texas had an extra-point-attempt to take a field goal lead. Strong played coy over whether Shane Buechele or senior Tyrone Swoopes would start, but it was evident immediately why Buechele was the pick.
The Texas Longhorns are facing the No. 10-ranked Notre Dame in Austin, Texas on Sunday night.
“We knew what Tyrone was”, UT coach Charlie Strong.
Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly, center, watches as his players run off the field during the first half of an NCAA college football game against Texas, Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in Austin, Texas. And that’s just what he did.
For so much of the game, it felt like UT’s stunning win against Oklahoma last season in the Cotton Bowl. The results were mixed, but the experiment might have ended in the second half. I think it starts with me and our staff coaching better, and then our players have got to do their job. The stage did not seem too big for him on Sunday night. Kizer led Notre Dame from a 17-point deficit in the second half. Forcier totaled 310 yards total offense, threw for two scores and ran for one, while Buechele totaled 313 yards total offense, passed for two TDs and ran for a third. Or running over several Irish defenders.
Entering the season, Hunter accounted for 28 of the 30 career catches recorded by a Notre Dame wide receiver on the current roster.
There are plenty of candidates a possible “play of the game” in a two-overtime thriller.
Texas 37, Notre Dame 37 (3:29) – In the craziest sequence of a wild game, Foreman rips off a 19-yard run in which he looked dead to rights to very temporarily allow the Longhorns to regain the lead. He keeps the play going by eluding the rush, moves to his left and finds Torii Hunter Jr. for a 5-yard TD pass. It appears that the play clock hit zero before Texas snapped the ball back to the holder.
When asked about the discussions he had with the officials regarding that play Kelly’s only response was, “Heated”. A penalty was not called for the illegal head-to-head contact and Notre Dame proceeded to have a field goal blocked later in the possession.
On the next play, Hunter’s night came to an uncertain end with the hit from Elliot.
PASSING-Notre Dame, Zaire 2-5-0-23, Hunter 0-1-0-0, Kizer 15-24-0-215. With 10:57 left, Notre Dame led 34-31.

In his first game, Buechele passed for 280 yards with two touchdowns.
