Texas unemployment rate rises in October to 4.4 percent
California’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined slightly to 5.8 percent in October from 5.9 percent in September.

Texas employers continued to add jobs at a steady monthly pace, with 20,000 new jobs in October, despite more losses in energy and manufacturing, according to data released today from the Texas Workforce Commission. For October, 454 job orders were posted, down more than 8 percent from the same month past year.
Nacogdoches County saw a slight increase in its jobless rate, going from 4.7 percent in September to 4.8 percent in October.
Amarillo had the lowest statewide unemployment rate during October at 3.2 percent.
Idaho showed the biggest percentage gain in employment last month with a 1.1 percent gain, followed by Alaska at 0.9 percent.
The fastest increases over the past year have been in construction, which posted a gain of 7.3% since October of last year and business and professional services were up over 5.3%.
The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro area added about 7,400 jobs in October. “All 67 counties experienced decreases in their unemployment rates over the month, and only one county registered an increase over the year”.
The Sac Bee report notes that the state’s unemployment low, the lowest in years, is actually lower than the rate at which it was prior to the nation falling into a recession following the housing bubble collapse.
Scott is choosing to make the announcement in Jacksonville because of the job growth the city has seen this year.
