The jobless rate was down from 4.8 percent in July but higher than 4.6 percent for the same month past year, according to a report today from the state Department of Job and Family Services.
Amarillo recorded the lowest unemployment rate for August with a 3.4 percent rate.
Dallas-Fort Worth’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.2 percent in July to 4.1 percent in August, but that number was flat compared with August of a year ago. That’s still below the national rate, 4.9 percent. That’s 6,000 less than in July but 9,000 more than a year earlier.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate did tick up to 4.7 percent in August from 4.6 percent in July.

The state in August added jobs in both services and the goods-producing sector, which includes the oil and gas industry and manufacturing. Mining and logging lost only 200 jobs, while construction posted a gain of 1,300, putting that industry just slightly below where it was at the beginning of 2016.
