Thai police raid on suspected foreign forgery gang uncovers body in freezer

Police said that one officer was shot as they staged a raid on a sprawling four-floor building in the city’s Phra Khanong district which led to the human remains being discovered.

Police have so far been unable to verify the identities of the foreign nationals detained as they found a number of passports bearing different names and nationalities.

Police found the dismembered body of a foreign man in a freezer on Friday (Sept 23) during a raid on an alleged forgery and drug trafficking gang.

A Tourist Police officer was also wounded in the operation after a suspect reached inside a safe for a 9mm gun and fired three shots.

“His body was cut with a sharp object into six pieces, put in a black bag and brought into the freezer”, the police chief told reporters. They received a tip-off that the building was used by a drug trafficking and passport forgery ring.

The trade was highlighted after the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 two years ago, he adds, when two Iranian men on board were found to have been travelling on stolen passports bought in Thailand. The officer was not seriously hurt and is recovering in Police General Hospital. Amounts of marijuana, ya ice (crystal methamphetamine) and passports were also seized.

A British man has been arrested following the discovery of a dismembered corpse hidden in a fridge.

The men will be taken from Phrakanong police station in Bangkok on Saturday and moved to holding facilities at a local court where they will be officially charged.

He said U.S. authorities were interested in the case and would join the investigation.

Commissioner Sanit arrived and ordered the freezer opened – they found the hand of what they originally thought was a young woman and a body covered in plaster.

A Burmese housekeeper and her husband, who were initially detained with the group, have not been charged with any crimes and are being treated as witnesses in the case, said Bangkok’s deputy police commander Suwat Jangyodsuk.
