Thanks to Romo’s Back, It’s Time for the Dak Attack
Jones said they’ll make the call on it sometime over the weekend, because, regardless of how they handle it, Romo will have to be part of the 53-man roster initially.

The Dallas Cowboys are being forced to bring along a young backfield battery much more quickly than anticipated after Tony Romo’s back injury…
Garrett said the morale of the Cowboys was good and the news of Romo being out for a significant time wasn’t deflating.
“We’re certainly getting our hands around it”, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday after the team’s annual Kickoff Luncheon benefitting Happy Hill Farm.
But if Prescott can avoid mistakes, and distribute the ball to some capable playmakers, he can make a lot of teams in need of a quarterback regret their draft day decision.
So, it sounds like worst case scenario is that he gets placed on injured reserve (designated to return) a day or so after final cutdown day. He’s sort of like that parent or grandparent that is around until things get really good, and then they just abandon everyone and skip town. The latter option will make him ineligible to return until Week 9 at the earliest.
Putting Romo on designated IR would mean he can’t return any sooner than November 6 against the Browns, the Cowboys eighth game of the season.
With rookie Dak Prescott thrust into a starting role due to Romo’s injury, the Cowboys signed quarterback Jerrod Johnson as a backup to Jameill Showers for Thursday’s preseason finale against the Houston Texans. Since training camp started, the Cowboys have carried only three quarterbacks on their roster, which has given their two younger ones more repetitions in practices and games.
Given the run-heavy nature of the Cowboys’ offense, it isn’t as if Prescott is going to be asked to go out there and win them games on his arm alone either.
We all sighed with relief after it seemed that Romo was “fine” and that he was insisting on trying to re-enter the game; to no avail of course with head coach Jason Garrett wanting to be safe with the starting quarterback.
“He’s very driven to do what it takes to get back”, Jones said of Romo. Is he in denial or does he really think us fans are a naive bunch?
“It’s the same way I’ve been preparing since I was drafted”, Prescott said after finding out he was the starter.

“It’s kind of interesting to see how you just think you are making a play on the football field, and so many people think a certain way about it. But the reality is, Tony’s going to come back for us and play great, we believe”. We look at the fantasy implications.
