Thauvin close to Newcastle switch

Newcastle schemer Remy Cabella is due in Marseille today to discuss a loan away from St James’ Park, according to L’Equipe.

The report from the PA says that the deal could be finalised very soon, as well as claiming that Newcastle have been tracking him for a couple of years now.

Florian Thauvin is on Tyneside to tie-up a £12million move to Newcastle – and take the club’s summer spending to almost £50m.

However the reality is a bit harsher than that, as Thauvin is known for having a awful attitude which has stunted his development.

Cabella was pulled out of training this morning and while it’s understood he has reservations about leaving Newcastle after just 12 months at the club, he is expected to join Marseille in the next 48 hours, initially on a season-long loan. He scored a penalty in France’s 4-0 win over Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals, scoring both French goals in their 2-1 victory against Ghana in the semi-finals.

New United boss Steve McClaren wants to make Thauvin his fourth signing on Tyneside and is ready to use Cabella as part of the deal.

Some people may see this as a gamble after his rather inconsistent two-year spell at Marseille however, at 22-years-old Thauvin has a big potential.
