On Sunday, high-ranking pro-government officials confirmed to Xinhua that they are planning to recruit and train more than 5,000 young fighters from the government-controlled southern provinces to join the fighting with the Saudi Border Guard Forces against Houthi rebels.
A security official and witnesses said a suicide bomber drove a vehicle into the building in the north of the city.
THIS is the smiling “ISIS suicide bomber” said to be responsible for a sickening attack on an army training camp in Yemen which killed dozens of people today.
However, on July 20, four policemen were killed in an Islamic State-claimed bomb attack in Aden. The French news agency, AFP, quoting local medical sources, put the toll at 71 dead.
Claiming the attack, ISIS stated that “60 people were killed in a militia recruitment center” in what was one of the deadliest massacres perpetrated to date by the terror group in Yemen. Part of the governorate sits on the countrys border with Saudi Arabia, where media reports indicate that attacks from the direction of Yemen have caused an unconfirmed number of civilian casualties, according to the OCHA statement.
Hundreds of Yemeni soldiers have been trained over the past two months as the government intensifies its onslaught to recapture southern provinces from jihadists.
Troops retook other towns across Abyan but have been met by fierce resistance in a key al-Qaeda stronghold, Al-Mahfid, a town which lies further east, security sources said.
Meanwhile, the government and rebels have responded positively to a new Gulf-backed initiative to end the conflict.
The Arab coalition battling the rebels in Yemen has also been providing troops with air cover throughout their war against the militants.
