The 2016 Emmys Were Especially Great for Queer Women
FX’s Sarah Paulson, who was up for Emmys for People vs. O.J. Simpson and American Horror Story, gave her girlfriend Holland Taylor shoutouts the entire night.

Clark, who served as head prosecutor in O.J. Simpson’s infamous 1995 murder trial, was perhaps the most fitting date possible given the American Crime Story actress’ role.
She was sitting on a couch, inches away from actress Sarah Paulson, who was holding the Emmy she won for portraying Ms Clark.
“The responsibility of playing a real person is an enormous one”, Paulson said, as Clark watched in the audience. And I am glad to be able able to stand here in front of everyone today and say, I’m sorry. Paulson has spoken before about getting to know Clark very well for her role. But in addition to her stirring speech praising the real woman behind her character, Paulson paid further tribute to Clark by engraving her name on her Emmys statuette. “I think an apology was in order so I was very, very happy to be able to do it in such a broad way”, she said.
Sarah Paulson finally broke her Emmys losing streak after five years of nominations.
Fans of the United States star were absolutely giddy on Twitter as they celebrated their “queen” winning her first Emmy.
And we bet she really will be cheering.
Sarah is also aware that having an Emmy win in the bag will likely contribute to her being offered more work going forward. Were she to lose, it may have made for a potentially awkward evening.
Paulson told “Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli about her impassioned acceptance speech, “Seems like an odd thing, like I’m not supposed to thank the person I love more than anything in the world because somehow it would be shameful”. Susanne Bier, the only women nominated in her category for directing a limited series, won, and even two actors (Jeffrey Tambor and Louis Anderson) won for playing women.

“God I just wanted her here so much”, she said. “So we got a long way to go, but I know we can get there”.
