Readers in each age group can sign up at the library or online at greatbend.mykansaslibrary.org. Each library branch will host one session each week at 3 p.m.

GPL’s programs are at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Another well-attended event is the adult coloring group. Paper logs will be provided to adults completing book reviews upon request.

While the entire four-week program is expected to provide a special treat for the youngsters who take part, the second and third weeks of the program will be magical, as Gary Ledbetter will perform magic tricks on Friday, June 10, and Michael Hammon will bring his magic style to the library on June 17.

Then there are cool summer special programs like Hip Hop Kids, Roller Derby, Family BINGOs, Skateboarding and Mad Science.

“We have a variety of different activities and several presenters”, Ott-Hamilton said of the summer program.

“Chester Cowen, who used to work for the Oklahoma Historical Society as a photo archivist, is coming in to teach that class”, Mooney said.

“Children are by far our biggest participants, but we do offer something to all ages”, Sherman said.

“We have over 100 programs planned during the two months, and we hope everyone will stop by and check us out”, said Erin Loveland, teen services librarian.

It’s that time again – time to gear up for the Artesia Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program.

The library is also offering a free book at the end of summer to each participant who reads at least three books.

Tuesday, June 7, 7:30 p.m. But they are always there for audio books (waiting in traffic a bit?), beach/pool reads and of course that bestseller you never got around to reading during your busy year so far.

The National Summer Learning Association highlights that, “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”.

The program encourages reading at least 20 minutes a day. The Library will have games, activities, giveaways, information about the Library, and more.

“That’s why we encourage them with a prize, because sometimes that helps get them into gear. We just want them to know the library is a fun an exciting place to go”.
