The Toronto Blue Jays rallied from 5-0 down to steal an 8-7 victory over the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball.

In the 8th, Donaldson whacked his third dinger of the game, prompting the Jays’ fans to throw their hats onto the field in protest. We talked about that a little bit (Friday).

Kyle Gibson couldn’t make it out of the sixth inning in Sunday’s no-decision against the Blue Jays, allowing four runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 frames.

PHILLIES 5, METS 1: A.J. Ellis got a big hit in his Philadelphia debut, breaking a seventh-inning tie with a two-run double that sent the Phillies to victory at NY.

WHITE SOX 9, MARINERS 3: Jose Abreu hit the first of four White Sox home runs and Jose Quintana pitched 72/3 solid innings for host Chicago.

“That was a huge play”, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. Troy Tulowitzki also got in on the action, hitting his 22nd home run of the season and going 2-for-4.

PADRES 3, MARLINS 1: Luis Perdomo benefited from a team record six double plays while pitching a six-hitter for his first complete game, and San Diego won at Miami. Twins manager Paul Molitor replaced Santana with Eddie Rosario after the inning, as Santana left the game with an AC joint sprain as a result of the collision with Grossman.

Sanchez hit a drive that bounced off the top of the right-center field wall and over in the fourth inning.

The Toronto centre fielder was moved over to third on a Melvin Upton Jr. grounder to short, and then scored when Devon Travis stroked a single over the second baseman in right.

Donaldson made up for his ninth error of the season nearly immediately, smoking a Gibson offering into the second deck in left in the bottom half. With two outs, Trevor Plouffe and Miguel Sano delivered clutch RBI singles as Minnesota stretched their lead to 5-2. Sitting just a game ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the division, they only lead the Detroit Tigers (first team now out of the wild-card picture) by four games.

Toronto scored in the bottom of the fourth when Encarnacion walked and Michael Saunders doubled.

Bautista picked his third hit of the day, a single, to lead off the seventh and Donaldson followed with his second home run on a 95 miles per hour four-seam fastball.

The Blue Jays pulled to within one run with a two-run sixth.

The Jays trailed 7-6 in the eighth when Kevin Pillar doubled with one out. He has now reached base in 23 of his last 24 starts and ranks second in the American League with 85 walks (Mike Trout had 90 prior to Sunday’s games).
