The American Legion honors veterans for Memorial Day
Young asked members of the audience to remember those who have lost their lives serving in the military or after returning home, as well as living veterans, those who are still enlisted and those who are serving overseas.

While Veterans Day, observed November 11, is to honor all veterans, Memorial Day honors the more than 1.2 million Americans believed to have been killed in US wars and conflicts from the Revolutionary War through current conflicts in the Middle East. Americans, in what gradually became known as Memorial Day, commemorated all native soldiers who had fought and died in battle.
After honoring fallen servicemen on Memorial Day this morning, local veterans and their families came together for a community barbeque.
Stone and King both spoke on the sacrifice of America’s armed forces members, as well as the responsibility of today’s Americans to honor those sacrifices by holding tight to the values they died for. We should be glad that we live in a state that has taken steps to help our veterans and has given them expanded educational and professional opportunities to succeed in civilian life.
As the beneficiaries of their legacy, we must ensure that the achievements and sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten, which is why we gather to remember.
