The Americans Will End After Two More Seasons

Additionally, FX Productions, which co-produces The Americans with Fox 21 TV Studios, has closed new overall deals with executive producers/co-showrunners Joe Weisberg, who created the series, and Joel Fields to develop their next show. The Americans showrunners, Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, released this statement in regards to the announcement from FX, “The best part of the last four years has been the intensive and fruitful collaboration with all of the people who make this show - the teams at FX, Fox 21 Television Studios, FX Productions and Amblin, our awesome cast, crew, and production team and our fellow writers. It’s a lot of people putting their hearts and souls into The Americans, at this point for a lot of years. We’re looking forward to the final two”. However, knowledge that the series is on the way out could cause Emmy voters to show some love for The Americans over the next two years.

The show will continued to follow the fraught and often lethal mix of espionage and raising a family in the arranged marriage between two Russian spies portrayed by Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell.

“It’s a lot of people putting their hearts and souls into The Americans, at this point for a lot of years”, the pair acknowledged. FX Production closed a deal with the two showrunners to develop their next television series, which is now unknown.

The cabler has renewed the acclaimed spy drama for two final seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Their previous missions have already placed Philip and Elizabeth in great jeopardy. He has also cultivated his relationship with KGB officer Oleg Burov (Costa Ronin), behind the back of Oleg’s boss, Director of the KGB Rezidentura Arkady Ivanovich (Lev Gorn).

Metacritic ranks The Americans season 4 as the most critically-acclaimed series of 2016 with a score of 95.

While The Americans has been lauded by critics throughout its run as one of the best dramas on TV, the series has been largely overlooked by the Emmys except for a best guest actress trophy won by Margo Martindale.

The new trend of preemptive renewals hasn’t really caught on at FX, as the network’s preferred to wait until season finales have aired or loom near before announcing such news.
