The Barclays Odds
With the top 125 players qualifying for the four-event play-off series, Day will be joined by fellow Aussies Steven Bowditch (22), Marc Leishman (50), Matt Jones (55), John Senden (88), and Adam Scott (94) in The Barclays, which starts at the Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey on Thursday.

The Barclays will return to New Jersey courses four times in the next seven years, at Ridgewood Country Club in 2018, Liberty National in 2019 and 2022, and Plainfield Country Club in 2020.
That list includes three past FedEx Cup champions: Hass, Furyk and Snedeker. The one notable exception to the headliners at the event is Rory McIlroy who will miss this week’s tournament as he recovers from his ankle injury before joining the playoffs at next week’s event in Boston.
Earning a spot in this week’s playoffs with good results at last week’s Wyndham Championship were Jason Gore, Davis Love III, Jonas Blixt, Camilo Villegas, and Ryo Ishikawa.
Since this is a tournament that moves around, but it’s only been at Plainfield once, there’s a lot of chalk in our top five this week. Retief Goosen won the last time it was played there in 2004. Day has three wins and a total of 8 top 10s this year in 16 events.
The event brings together the leading 125 players from the FedEx Cup points table, this amount reducing to 100 for next week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, to 70 for the BMW worldwide and to the leading 30 for the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
Jason Day will start as one of the genuine contenders for the title given his recent wins at the Canadian Open and the PGA Championship. He is playing the best tee-to-green golf in the world.
