The Beatles have become the latest band to join the streaming movement, releasing their entire back catalogue of music on all the major services on Thursday.
The band – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – which split in 1970, have remained hugely popular and influential after clocking up 17 United Kingdom number one singles as a group.
The Beatles’ music has always been available on Internet radio services such as Pandora Media Inc. and on satellite radio, but never before via on-demand services.
Beatles fans, rejoice: Starting on Christmas Eve, you’ll be able to stream “Hey Jude”, “Eleanor Rigby”, and all your other favorites from the Fab Four.
Customers who do not have a paid account on Spotify can still stream the music, according to the service. The fact that they’re finally coming to streaming services is a huge deal that shows that streaming music is a legitimate, important part of the music industry.
To access The Beatles’ music log into your preferred music service, and we can confirm at the time of writing that not only is the music there, it sounds pretty good as well.
The Beatles have sold about 900,000 albums and 2 million digital songs this year, down from 1.2 million albums and 2.7 million songs last year, according to Nielsen Music.
Rhapsody said in a news release, “To celebrate, Rhapsody has created a special editorial experience to take listeners through the legendary history of The Beatles”.
Before this new deal, the Beatles music was only available digitally via MP3 format in iTunes.
