The Beatles’ music catalogue hits streaming services
Here, there and everywhere – and now on streaming services too.

According to The New York Times, the band’s catalog – 13 original albums and four compilations – will be available on nine different streaming music services: Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon Prime Music, Tidal, Deezer, Microsoft Groove, Napster/Rhapsody, and Slacker Radio.
Following rumours this month, the Beatles’ website has confirmed that their catalogue will be made available tomorrow (Christmas Eve). Some are saying that the availability of their discography might bring even more people to music streaming since they will be able to legally access all these songs for a monthly service fee.
Years of waiting are over for Beatles fans wanting to listen to the Fab Four’s music on streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify.
The band was anxious that the valuable song catalogue could be devalued by selling individual songs or by an increased potential for digital piracy.
However, technology giant Apple entered the streaming market for the first time earlier this year with the launch of Apple Music, which already has around 15 million users across its paid and free trial tiers. The catalogue’s debut on streaming services will be seen by many as a vindication of streaming music’s place in the industry. Re/code later reported that the music would be available on all major streaming services.
However, Beatles’ appearance on Spotify will be a great means of recovery for a service that lost Ms. Swift due to her issues with the platform’s dynamics.
The band’s remaining members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, have yet to comment on why they finally chose to make The Beatles’ catalog available to stream.
