“A year ago, I didn’t think I was going to live for two or three weeks”, Carter said Monday.

The 91-year-old Carter spoke with The Associated Press on the site of a Habitat for Humanity construction project in Memphis.
Carter revealed in August 2015 that he had been diagnosed with melanoma that spread to his brain.
It was the opening ceremony for Habitat for Humanity’s 33rd Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project taking place in Memphis through Friday.
After dodging political questions and telling reporters he thought he would be dead within weeks this time past year, the cancer-surviving Carter said voting for Hillary Clinton is a no-brainer. He said: “I thought I just had a few weeks to live”.
“We are grateful to President and Mrs. Carter, Garth and Trisha for working with us this week to help families build the foundation for a better future”, said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International.
Since 1984, President and Mrs. Carter have traveled across the US and the world with Habitat, donating their time and voices annually to build and improve homes and raise awareness of the critical need for decent and affordable housing. “Everybody knows I’m Democratic, and I’ll be voting Democratic”.
It’s the second time in 10 months the Carters have put themselves to work here.Last November, they spent a day helping to build a single Habitat house in Memphis’s Uptown neighborhood.
Before a question and answer session during the news conference, Carter drew laughs when he mentioned Trump. Summoning his well-honed skills from teaching Sunday School at Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains, Carter exhorted the troops to use whatever talents they had in service to others.
“Rosalynn and I are thrilled to lend our hands in Memphis this week, and we look forward to working with Habitat homeowners and volunteers”.
