The Chainsmokers & Halsey’s ‘Closer’ Climbs to No. 1 on Hot 100
It’s also topping the Streaming Songs chart, earning 23.1 million United States streams, mostly from Spotify (51 percent).

According to Billboard, “The Chainsmokers are the first duo or group to pace the Hot 100 in more than two years, since MAGIC! led for six weeks in July and August 2014 with “Rude”.
“The New York pair’s breakthrough hit, “#Selfie”, landed at #16 on the main singles chart.
Billboard remarks that “Closer” is only the second track ever to concurrently top the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart as well as the Hot 100; the first was 2013’s massive hit “Harlem Shake” by Baauer.
Their collaboration Closer leapt five places to wrestle the top spot away from Sia and Sean Paul’s Cheap Thrills, which had dominated the summit for a month. Spotify streams mark more than half (51 percent) of the song’s total clicks; its only official video so far is a lyric video (ahead of an expected proper clip).
It also claims #1 once again on the Digital Songs chart, having sold 116,000 units (up 44 percent).

Great news for the Chainsmokers and Halsey – they’ve only each gone and scored their first Billboard Hot 100 Number 1! Following that, their 2015 ROZES collab, “Roses”, climbed to #6, while the Daya-featuring “Don’t Let Me Down” recently made it to #3.
