The community doesn’t seem too happy with ARK’s Scorched Earth expansion

On the one hand, it seems happy to act as if the game is basically complete when needed, in order to justify the release of a paid-for expansion for example, or when notably describing the game’s current status as “essentially [.] a very cheap game-as-a-service [with] thousands of hours of always-updating content”.

Another writes, “Ripping people off by not even finishing making the game we spent our money to fund and then charging for a DLC while its [sic] still an EARLY ACCESS!”

In the four days since the expansion was unveiled, the Steam page for Ark has been inundated with negative reviews and complaints.

“While that meant unveiling the first Expansion early, it also means an easier time integrating further post-launch Expansions into the ARK network”.

So, the plan was to develop the ARK: Survival Evolved DLC alongside the main game at the same time. Until September 8, the main game is on sale with a 40 percent discount.

ARK: Survival Evolved is now in Early Access, and it is scheduled for full release on Linux, Mac OS X, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One before the end of 2016. Additionally, players will need to survive electrical storms and sand storms, and must also avoid heatstroke. While the core game presents a harsh environment where players have to use their ingenuity to survive, the new expansion pack ups the ante with the added concern of heat and limited water. Let us know in the comments along with whether you’d pick up Scorched Earth anytime soon. “The new expansion, Scorched Earth, which took over 14 months to develop, aims to provide a “completely new and different experience” to that of the base game, stripping your character of all belongings and dumping them, completely naked, in an inhospitable desert”. Just mind your step in the vast desert, or you might attract a Death Worm! “We’ve been working on it for a long time”.

Available today on both Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview, Scorched Earth gives players a desert-themed ARK with new biomes, creatures, and gameplay mechanics. This makes it a versatile mount, says Studio Wildcard. On the other hand, Primal Survival has been handed off to Studio Wildcard’s Egyptian development partner, Instinct Games. This when the game would technically be in beta status, but that has not been announced yet, and the official PC patch notes have a lengthy list of upcoming content and features listed.
