The Convention Exposed Fractures in the GOP
Trump said nation-building pursued by Clinton in Iraq, Libya, Egypt and Syria had made a bad situation worse.

“I’m talking about trade, I’m talking about law and order, I’m going to be talking about borders”.
The US is facing multiple threats to its security that only Donald Trump can confront and repel, he is expected to say as he accepts the Republican presidential nomination. “Beginning on January 20th, 2017 (when the next president is inaugurated) safety will be restored”. “The most basic duty of government is to defend the lives of its own citizens”.
Mr Trump accused Mrs Clinton, his Democratic rival, of utterly lacking the good judgment to serve in the White House and as the military’s commander in chief.
“Not only have our citizens endured domestic disaster, but they have lived through one worldwide humiliation after another”.
Trump’s speech will close out a four-day conclave in Cleveland that exposed continuing divisions among Republicans over their nominee at a time when they need to unite for a looming battle against Democrat Hillary Clinton in the run-up to the November 8 election.
And that wasn’t the only criticism he made of the presumptive Democratic nominee, whom he has dubbed “Crooked Hillary” throughout his campaign.
“But Hillary Clinton’s legacy does not have to be America’s legacy”.
Another 18 per cent were “somewhat positive” about it, while 24 per cent said the speech had a “negative effect” on them.
Mr Trump also criticised the record of his rival Mrs Clinton from when she was in charge of foreign policy, and blamed her for the spread of Islamic State, the destabilisation of Libya and Egypt and the chaos in Iraq and Syria. She went on a long list of groups she doesn’t believe he represents, including: small business owners, housekeepers, cooks, immigrants, people with disabilities, veterans and women. This was the American people who selected him.
“I saw his speech”, Trump said. “As I recall, we had a revolution to make sure we didn’t have someone who said, ‘I can fix it alone'”.
“I am your voice. I’m gonna say that’s a little bit troubling what they’re saying”, Cruz said.
“I am with you, I will fight for you, and I will win for you”. “And those are all things that we don’t have a great sense about beyond platitudes about ‘making America great again'”.
Trump’s speech was interrupted at one point by a protester from Code Pink, a women’s activist group aimed at putting an end to USA wars, and he waited to continue speaking until police removed her from the arena. Ted Cruz remained defiant about not endorsing Donald Trump, insisting he is not a “servile puppy dog” who would back anyone who personally attacks his family.
