The Crew: Wild Run Beta Begins Later This Month

With The Crew set to receive a big expansion called Wild Run this November, Ubisoft has decided that it would like to have a bit more involvement in its developer than just publishing it. So it’s purchased Ivory Tower, the developer behind the mixed-bag of a racer.

In a post on the publisher’s official Blog, Ubisoft said, “The Ivory Tower team is now officially part of the Ubisoft family”. Ivory Tower worked on The Crew with the assistance of now fellow Ubisoft driving specialists, Reflections.

Announced back in 2013, The Crew promised to be a spiritual successor to Test Drive Unlimited and Burnout Paradise, blending fast-paced racing with elements borrowed from massively multiplayer on-line role playing games (MMORPGs).

After eight years, The Crew was released, and it has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide.

PC players can get in the action first with a beta, that starts October 15th. “By joining Ubisoft, the team will continue to benefit from Ubisoft’s infrastructure, support, tools, technology and vision”.

Despite poor reviews, Ubisoft has committed to the future of the franchise by acquiring French developer Ivory Tower for an undisclosed sum.

This closed beta will feature both PvE and PvP opportunities, allowing participants to control dragsters, drift cars, monster trucks and motorcycles “from prestigious brands” alike. If you’ve yet to take a cruise into the world of The Crew, you can register for the closed beta here.
