The Dark Tower Movie “May Upset Some Fans A Little Bit”
Are you going to be in the audience when this Stephen King adaptation hits the big screen? So while the primary storyline – which has the gunslinger Roland (Idris Elba) in pursuit of the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) with both headed for the magical structure that holds all of reality together – may be retained, diehard fans might also see a lot of stuff that they wouldn’t imagine popping up until a second, third or seventh movie.

Elba, whose voice is now roaring in theaters as the tiger Shere Khan in “The Jungle Book”, cuts an imposing figure on his latest shoot in dark jeans, boots, a white long-sleeve shirt and vest, with a red bandana knotted around his neck.
“I expect that the movie will start where the books start”. I think that nails it right in place for people.
“[It] may upset some of the fans a little bit”, said King. “But they will get behind it, because it is the story”.
Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is finally underway and we now even have our first look at Idris Elba as The Gunslinger.
The Dark Tower is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) and written by Arcel, Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner.
But just today (May 19), King returned to Twitter, posting the below message, saying, “Last Time Around”, which refers to Roland continuously returning to the beginning to repeat his quest to find the Dark Tower. The cast also includes Kathryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley.

This, it seems, may have called for some creative reinterpretation on the part of the filmmakers – and King himself seems at ease with that, although he’s not unreasonably concerned that some fans will feel differently. It is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017.
