During those five days, which kicks off Thanksgiving Day and is the busiest stretch in retail every year, mobile traffic is predicted to account for 56.9 percent of total online retail visits, a sizeable rise from the 48.5 percent counted last year, according to IBM Watson.
Mobile sales made up 37 percent of Thursday’s online sales, which was 20 percent higher than the same day a year ago.
Thanksgiving Day online shopping, however, jumped 25% vs. Thanksgiving 2014, to $1.72 billion.
For the first time, there’s expected to be more people visiting retailers’ websites through their smartphones than on desktop computers or tablets during the first weekend of the holiday shopping season that begins on Thanksgiving Day.
Internet consumers averaged $98.10 per user. And though it’s still a small fraction of online revenue, mobile sales are jumping too. “Top selling products like the Xbox One, Samsung Gear VR, Star Wars’ Kylo Ren, and the GoPro HERO3 are already low in stock”.
While the merits of Black Friday sales can be called into question, one thing stands out about 2015 in particular: it could be a record-setter for mobile devices.
Also of note, NRF says more shoppers plan to use their smartphone for research and miscellaneous tasks like looking up store information than past year. The average discount is 24 percent, according to WFMY News 2. Promotions on Monday, November 23, and Tuesday, November 24, were in-line with Adobe’s predictions, 22% and 21% discounts on average, respectively.
Adobe Systems’ (NASDAQ:ADBE) Adobe Digital Index, which says it measures 80% of all online transactions from the top 100 US retailers, said sales between midnight and 11 a.m. ET Friday rose 15% from the year-earlier period, to $822 million. Social media findings are based on more than 100 million global social mentions captured and analyzed from blogs, Google+, Reddit, Twitter, Dailymotion, Flickr, Instagram, Tumblr, Foursquare, YouTube, WordPress, and others.
