Student Pippa Hussain received 7 A* grades, and her parents thanked the College and said they were overwhelmed.
Down the road at Alcester Academy staff said they were were absolutely delighted as pupils once again exceeded last year’s results showing a year on year improvement.
A national trend shows that results have dropped significantly across the board with grades A* to C falling 2.1 percentage points, from 69 per cent to 66.9 per cent.
Following the release of the figures Linda Kemeny, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet member for schools, skills and educational achievement, said: “I would like to congratulate Surrey pupils receiving their GCSE results”.
“If it wasn’t for the community coming together to petition to keep the school open, and the ongoing support of so many individuals, we would not be in a position to deliver a quality of education that I am genuinely proud of”.
Basketball player Ross, 16, is one of the school’s many success stories, gaining nine A*s, three As and an A* Distinction while juggling his studies alongside hours of training for the England basketball squad.
Hannah planned to take her A-Levels at Jumeirah College.
Nearly half of students got eight plus A* to A grades, and 100 per cent achieved five or more A* to C grades overall, compared with the United Kingdom average of 66.9 per cent.
Peter Howlett achieved seven A*s, three As and one B including Maths, all three sciences, PE and Spanish.
Staff said boys were waiting with baited breath for the results to arrive. “I’m really hoping I get accepted to Kings, just got a few more days to wait to hear the result of my application”.
The number of students attaining grades A* to C in English had declined from 65.4 per cent last year to 60.2 per cent this year.
‘These are great results, so many congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to achieve them.
