‘The Flash’ Boss Talks Iris’ Bombshell, Barry’s Unexpected Encounter (SPOILERS)

Detective Joe West (Jesse L.Martin) revealed more about Francine’s life to Iris (Candice Patton) last week, and how she reacts is yet to be seen.

Barry (Grant Gustin) and the team look for another Firestorm match for Dr. Stein (Victor Garber). And now we’re really going to pick up, with 5 and with 6 and 7, the Earth-2 storyline. “She’s keeping a secret to protect somebody and she’s going to find that – for all her anger at Barry and Joe from previous year – keeping this secret is not going to be so easy”. But our visual effects team are the best and they really love challenges like this. I agree with the idea of introducing a different type of character into Team Flash considering that the team consists entirely of white scientists (with the exception of Joe and Iris).

“There’s a lot more room for comedy with the Firestorm character than we’ve seen before”, he added.

You owe it to yourself to watch this episode! Patty Spivot has evolved into a welcome presence in only a few short weeks, and Iris is finally in a position where she knows something nobody else does, namely that she has a brother (and Joe may have a son he doesn’t know about).

Overall, I was blown away by how well this hour pulled together the various extra characters that seemed to pull last week down. On top of that being a cool little twist for the episode, it was nice to see the show go back to the story that’s supposed to be happening throughout the season: Zoom sending metahumans to Earth-One to kill the Flash. “It’s only in hindsight that you look back and go, ‘Oh, that thing in episode whatever from early Season 2, that tied into the thing that led into the other thing”.

The CW pre-screened the episode for various sites where EP Andrew Kreisberg noted King Shark actually first appeared in one of the Flash tie-in comics, and they assumed that they wouldn’t get to use King Shark; however, Flash writer Todd Helbing said to go ahead and do it. Kreisberg mentioned it was a very expensive 30 seconds, and that they wouldn’t be able to do a full King Shark episode because of the costs involved.

“What’s especially hard for Caitlin, and maybe ultimately cathartic about this experience, is that she’s connected to Stein and she cares deeply about him because he is her last connection to Ronnie”, she explained.

“I think the next episode begins in a surprising way”. We knew news of Wally was coming, as the arrival of Iris mom necessarily meant that other facts about the West family would come to light. “You’re going to get a lot of answers to questions you have”. Which does mean that there is a King Shark on Earth-1.

If you liked this review hit me up on social media for more! Yes, it’s an extended Arrow flashback, just on an entirely different series! Yay? “So Cisco is really scared”.

We’ll also get to see the return of Gorilla Grodd in season two, in which “Caitlin plays Fay Wray to Grodd’s Kong”, said Kreisberg. Barry is called over by Cisco to talk about the donor. We thought that was kind of the fun of these episodes.

“And it’s exponentially bigger this year too because we factored in all the characters from ‘Legends, ‘ too”, Panabaker noted.

She continued, “I don’t hate you Francine”. [Laughs] We have more heroes, more people with powers, more mouths to feed and bigger villains.
