The other big Flash news from today concerns Todd Lasance, an actor fans of The Vampire Diaries will recognize.
According to TVLine – which was first to report the news on Wednesday, Aug. 24 – Lasance will recur as the speedster villain in the next installment and will make his series debut in the season premiere.
Created by Mark Waid and Oscar Jimenez in 1995’s The Flash #108, Savitar quickly became a key adversary for the Scarlet Speedster after the memorable “Dead Heat” arc. It turned out, however, that The Rival’s version of the speed formula was only temporary, and he was taken down by The Flash when it was used up. Some reports earlier this week had Lasance playing Savitar, one of the main villains who will be menacing Barry and friends soon, but Greg Berlanti shut down that speculation. “But everything about him is different than Zoom or Reverse Flash”. Dr. Alchemy traditionally wore a hood in the comics, while Savitar had a cult following that could explain this villain’s followers.

The Season 2 finale of CW’s DC superhero TV series has changed the course of the story from the very first season, as Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) chose to use his power to go back in time and save his mother from being killed by Reverse Flash. Naming himself after Savitr, the Hindu god of motion, the character studied elements of the Speed Force that were unknown to other speedsters at the time, eventually forming his own cult.
