“The Force Awakens” Dominates Theaters
Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, who returned for The Force Awakens, is highly excited for the new direction he expects Johnson to take. Traditionally, anything that’s not Avatar or Titanic has struggled to gain traction during the holiday season, with audiences finding themselves generally preoccupied with the laundry list of Christmas responsibilities.

In the book “The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, which will be sold on Amazon starting January 2, tons of secrets were revealed about the outrageous and wicked ideas during the development and production of the blockbuster film, which has already broke and set new records as it enters its third week in the theaters.
The Force Awakens is also close to becoming the all-time domestic box-office champion. According to Box Office Mojo, the J.J. Abrams-directed film is now ranked at number 10 in the all time box office worldwide grosses.
Joy debuted in 3rd with $17 million, ranking 2nd among director David O. Russell’s wide releases (below American Hustle with $19.1 million).
Despite only being out ten days in US cinemas, the movie had already garnered $540 million at the box office, making it the second biggest 2014 release so far, behind Jurassic World’s total of $652 million, which The Force Awakens will undoubtedly pass by the end of next weekend. Will it be able to reach $2.7 billion to become the #1 movie of all-time?
Force Awakens has smashed one record after another since its debut. Many dressed up as their favorite Star Wars characters.
Jeff Bock, box office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, says despite optimistic predictions going into 2015, there was some doubt that the box office record would be broken during the lean months of September and October.
The seventh film in the Star Wars series has till date made $544.5 million in the United States.
Disney and Lucasfilm couldn’t have hoped for a better reception, both critically and financially. The five have all made more than $1 billion.

“Two billion is very doable, but $2.8 billion is a different beast entirely”, Bock told AFP by email.
