Presales were huge for The Force Awakens, but most of those tickets were reportedly sold for Thursday, Friday, and Christmas Day, so the rest of the weekend is essentially open territory.

This tops the previous $91.1 million record held by “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” in July 2011.
Box office analysts expect it to make around $200m (£134m) over its opening weekend, a total that could challenge the record Jurassic World set earlier this year.
By the end of the weekend, “Force Awakens” may beat the record set in June by dinosaur movie “Jurassic World”, which collected $208.8 million at domestic theaters over its first three days, according to box office experts.
And those are the conservative forecasts, with Variety mentioning that while Disney was playing it cool, other studios were thinking perhaps $250 million was in reach. In any case, you know what to do.
It has smashed records for the biggest opening day of all time but it looks to shatter all time box office records for any film’s opening weekend, as well. “We’re making sure there are numerous daily showtimes for Star Wars available at all of our locations across the country where fans will have many, many options – including 3D and XD – for an out-of-this-world adventure”.
At the beginning of The Force Awakens, audiences were introduced to the classic screen crawl which that informed viewers Luke Skywalker has been missing for quite some time.
“This represents a new record for the industry and portends a massive and potentially record-breaking opening day and weekend for the film”, said Paul Dergarabedian, of box office tracker Rentrak.
The iMax viewings of The Force Awakens has generated $5.7 million at 391 screenings. The average age for a Force Awakens ticket buyer is 44.
“The Force Awakens” picks up the intergalactic story of good versus evil 30 years on from “The Return of the Jedi”, the last episode of the original trilogy.
