The Force Awakens lighting up theaters in three weeks (opening December 18), the blockbuster’s mastermind J.J. Abrams has joined forces with an unlikely musical partner: Hamilton creator, Lin Manuel-Miranda. So I emailed Lin, and he said, ‘I’ll drop everything!’ We sent music files back and forth… the whole thing was nuts. When he found out Williams didn’t want to do the cantina music, he chose to take Miranda up on his offer.
Rather than pulling an Aaron Burr on Abrams, Miranda confirmed on Twitter that he indeed had worked on the music on the days when Hamilton had both a matinee and an evening performance. Miranda then called Abrams the best and exclaimed he can’t wait to see the film.
The behind-the-scenes footage sees director JJ Abrams and actress Daisy Ridley joking with the portly alien, assumed to be Pegg given the similarity in costume. Rumour has it that Kanata’s home will be a Mos Eisley-style den of iniquity. Today brings final word of the film’s official runtime, while Harrison Ford reveals that he’s one of the lucky few to have already seen The Force Awakens – and yes, he really likes it. He was always the wise guy, but has he gotten wiser, less wise, more wise? And Spielberg, talking to RTL (also via Slashfilm) commented on the movie himself, saying “I think this new Star Wars could be the biggest movie ever”.

For those willing to travel for the ultimate space opera experience, the popular Alamo Drafthouse chain has opened a Star Wars-themed cinema in Nebraska just in time for the debut of The Force Awakens. Abrams was the right choice to take over the beloved science fiction franchise (that opinion, of course, could change once the film is actually released).
