In an interview with Charlie Rose, George Lucas spoke about everything from his and Disney’s branching vision to the deal itself. “All the Star Wars films”, Lucas said. I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologise.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has passed “Marvel’s The Avengers” as the highest-grossing film in the domestic box. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are proving that America does indeed love them as “Sisters” managed to land in fourth place with $13.9 million.
“I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings, but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directors in film, television and the parks”, Lucas said.
Audio clip: Listen to audio clip. I don’t know whether I’ll be here when I’m 80 – every ten years the odds get less – and so I said I’m not ready to do that because I want to do these other things, so I have to make the decision on my own that it’s time to move on.
It’s true – while even the wildly despised prequel films all introduced new aspects of the “Star Wars” universe, “The Force Awakens” was all about juxtaposing the familiarity of the original “Star Wars” setting against the brand-new, more diverse characters in the cast. “Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise”.
Frozen, also from Disney, earned $1.28 billion globally after opening in late 2013.
Lucas concluded by adding: “Most of all I’m blown away with the record breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of JJ and Kathy”.
