‘The Force Awakens’ smashes box office records

“The Force Awakens” tops the global charts, breaking box-office records worldwide, in Korea, it is a totally different story.
3 – Number of “Star Wars” films in the top 15 biggest box office films of all-time, adjusted for inflation. It also set records in Britain, Australia, Russia and elsewhere as fans embraced a new chapter in the galactic battle between good and evil.
“The industry is expecting unbelievable holds this upcoming weekend and through the holidays, and if that happens, “Avatar” and its records may be the next thing to fall in the face of the power of the force”. That puts it at the third biggest overseas opening of all time, behind Jurassic World ($316 million) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 ($314 million), but those two films had the advantage of a China release, while The Force Awakens’ China release will be on January 9. Universal’s Jurassic World had been the previous record holder with $524.9 million with its release this past June.
Globally, “The Force Awakens” landed at $517 million after opening to $279 million overseas.
Notably, Ford is getting paid 56 times the $450,000 flat fee received by British newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridleywho each play new leading characters in the film. Star Wars has smashed that to bits, with Variety now reporting a take of $247 million (revised from $238 million) in just one weekend.
