The hit series of HBO naming “Veep” has received the most numbers of comedy nominations but the ABC show, Black-ish, also received nominations in the top 3 categories. Let’s face it, Modern Family just isn’t as good as it used to be, it feels stale.
Comedy star Amy Schumer secured four nominations, the most given to any one person this year, for her acting and writing in “Saturday Night Live” and “Inside Amy Schumer”.
Another black actress, Viola Davis, won the category a year ago and is nominated in the same category for her work on ABC s “How to Get Away with Murder”. Apparently she was Facetiming her mother when she got a Twitter notification that she was nominated for an award.
Idris Elba for “Luther”, Benedict Cumberbatch for “Sherlock” and Tom Hiddleston for “The Night Manager” have received nods in the outstanding lead actor list.
FX adds many more nominations with “American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson”. “The Americans”, which stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys and depicts Russian spies living in America during the Cold War, was nominated for best drama series and Ms. Russell and Mr. Rhys were nominated in their respective categories as well.
The 68th Emmy Awards air live Sunday, September 18 at 7 p.m. on ABC, while Game of Thrones returns for season seven sometime in 2017 on HBO. The 29-year-old actor is facing some stiff competition with his “Game of Thrones” co-star Peter Dinklage, “Better Call Saul’s” Jonathan Banks, “House of Cards” actor Michael Kelly, “Bloodline’s” Ben Mendelsohn and “Ray Donovan’s” Jon Voight, who are all nominated for the same category.
Similarly, in the Outstanding Lead Performer for a Comedy Series category (actor and actress), names new to the nominations emerged this year such as: Aziz Ansari in “Master of None”, Thomas Middleditch in “Silicon Valley”, Ellie Kemper in “Unbreakable”, Kimmy Schmidt, and Tracee Ellis Ross in “Black-ish”.
