The government just announced some big changes to try and fix Obamacare
And as Paul Krugman points out, numerous states fighting Obamacare implementation are the very states that made a federal solution necessary by using their power under the preexisting Medicaid program to shirk health-care access for poor people with serious health problems. As if Obamacare – aka The “Affordable” Care Act – rate increases aren’t troublesome enough, multiple major insurers are either scaling back participation or dropping out altogether. The number on the second graph above is an attempt to quantify the extent of the change between the two years, by multiplying the percent of counties in each category in 2016 by one, two or three (depending on the category) and then subtracting the same calculation for 2017.
Nearly a third of USA counties look likely to have just a single insurer offering health plans on the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) exchanges next year, according to a new analysis, an industry pullback that adds to the challenges facing the law.
Almost a third of the country could have just a single company offering plans on their Obamacare exchange next year, according to an analysis this week that says the exodus of big players such as UnitedHealth and Aetna is denting the health law.
It also estimated that “Approximately 6 in 10 counties could have 2 or fewer marketplace insurers in 2017”.
You may recall that Obama had initially promised an experience to that of purchasing a plane ticket.
Those predictions have come true, he said, including in his home state of Tennessee. They created the [problem],’ the governor said. “They have to have this critical mass of people so that, by the law of averages, you’re going to get a mix of healthy and less healthy people”.
“Americans have a choice this election”.
According to a report written by Robert D. Reischauer and Alice M. Rivlin of the Brookings Institution, the Democratic Party will need to compromise with Republicans in order to engage this side in passing legislation that would fix certain obstacles within the Affordable Care Act. Democrats will spend more of your taxpayer dollars to prop up the collapsing Obamacare exchanges. “Unlike Trump’s plan, A Better Way makes a point of laying out a series of reforms aimed at strengthening the ability of employers to offer healthcare benefits to their employees”, the report from the American Health Policy Institute stated.

“These proposed actions and others we have taken over the last six months would help to: support issuers with high-cost enrollees, while updating risk adjustment; strengthen the risk pool; promote additional enrollment; and support issuers in entering the Marketplace or growing their Marketplace business”, Counihan wrote in a post summarizing the proposals.
