The Great British Bake Off 2015 week 1 live blog

Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, presenters of the Great British Bake Off. Betting has been suspended on this year’s show by Ladbrokes after a flurry of bets in the Ipswich area. Although I was initially sceptical that this might be the series that the Bake-Off finally loses its sheen by the end of tonight’s episode it was like I’d reacquainted myself with an old friend. They discussed their applications to the show and how daunted they were now the day had finally approached.

“But it’s been an awesome experience, I will remember this forever, oh well, back to music”.

Stuart is one of the 12 contestants on Bake Off [BBC].

Some bakers stumbled at the first hurdle, such as the youngest contestant 19-year-old Flora, who forgot to turn on the oven before popping the cake mix in, while trained anaesthetist Tamal make sure he was accurate with the Madeira glaze by injecting syrup into the sponge. If you think this show is just watching people bake while Mel and Sue test the limits of acceptable broadcasting with their cake based innuendo you are so, SO WRONG. I did say, “Just take it easy, it’ll be fine, but it will change your life”. Can’t believe I haven’t watched it before!! Until then find out more about this year’s batch of bakers.

Stu, who was eventually booted off, declared his plans to rebel, “Mary said one tablespoon”.

The 32-year-old Lithuanian bodybuilder works as a PA and administrator and describes baking as a hobby, combining the Eastern European methods she has learned from her mother and grandmother with British baking traditions. In fact it was Marie who gained an early advantage by presenting a classic citrus Madeira that she’d made plenty of times before for her large family. The technical challenge was a walnut cake with frosted icing, which sounds straightforward enough, but the skill here is the size of your walnuts…and, according to Mr Hollywood, size definitely does matter.

But will he impress the judges in the first episode, cake week? And who will suffer the horrifying soggy bottom?

In the final challenge, which saw contestants baking Black Forest gateau, Ms Docherty referred to her creation as “a bit random with a trendy twist”.

Dorret burst into tears as she lifted off her cake tin for her gateau to collapse all over her hands.

There are two Paul Hollywoods on the Great British Bake Off and nobody can deal
