Martin was leading the Dundrod 150 before crashing out on the last lap which led to the race, won by Bruce Anstey, being red flagged.

He narrowly missed out on a Superbike victory at the Isle of Man TT to Kiwi Bruce Anstey but Hutchinson, who received a standing ovation during the official launch of the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix in Belfast last month, intends to put that right on Saturday. “Longest 3 hours EVER!!”

However, it’s understood that he will undergo back surgery following the crash after his sister tweeted that her brother would need an operation.

“There’s no question that Guy’s injuries could have been worse otherwise, plus the removal of the bank also prevented his bike from bouncing back into the path of another rider”.

His Tyco BMW team has confirmed that he will not be taking part in the rest of the event.

Tyco team manager Philip Neill added: ‘Most importantly our thoughts are with Guy at this point in time, and although it is a real shame he will not be racing on Saturday – thankfully he will recover from his injuries and be up on his feet in a few days.

Unfortunately, further scans revealed that Martin sustained fractured vertebrae, broken ribs and a broken sternum, ruling him out of the final major global road race of the season.
