The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2

As a fan of Suzanne Collins’s books, I’ve been continually impressed with how true the filmmakers have stayed to the original story. It’s the movie and the characters, and they have their own life.

After Lawrence wrote the opinion piece, there was a backlash from a few who called it “Jennifer’s bratty display”.

Katniss navigates a booby-trapped Capitol in the hope of assassinating evil President Snow in Mockingjay Part 2, the final installment of the Hunger Games series, based on Suzanne Collins’ novels. That said, I’d highly recommend a refresher before heading to see Part 2. I’m still scared, but it’s about different things. The small details are what counts here.

Don’t be fooled: Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) is barely in this movie with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence). For what’s supposed to be an action-packed fighting finale, there are far too many scenes of hiding, sleeping, contemplating, and of course more inner-revelations. This is truly an adventure movie. One of the most frustrating being the complete lack of regard for time. Time moves and jumps without warning. She has become the face of so much throughout these movies that people have gotten used to blaming her for any death and destruction that occurs.

Despite the lack of any more source material, the studio is reportedly trying hard to continue the franchise and keep raking in all that box office money. She brings the complex character alive, displaying equal parts heroism, vulnerability and determination. “She went down and luckily no one saw because it was at the back of the theater…I picked her up, she now only has one heel so I’m walking her out”.

One, this movie actually enhances the experience of Part 1.

The Gale transition in Mockingjay – Part 2 makes the character less heroic. In truth, the best parts of these films has always been the chemistry between Lawrence and Hutcherson as Katniss and Peeta and their working together to survive while falling for each other.

Then again, what do I know? It is fantastic what these parts do to complement each other.

The long coda that wraps up the franchise is probably only for hardcore fans hungry for details about Katniss and Peeta, but felt like padding to me. With all that I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this movie, but I was surprised, it was entertaining and kept my attention.

Now the fourth part of this series will be “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part-2” which release in 2015.

Speaking to Yahoo, director Francis Lawrence, who helmed the last three of the four movies, has joined the accidental trend started by Peter Jackson yesterday, of surprising honesty about the challenges of the schedule he was on.
